ThinkIdea Announces the first issue of Artworld Digest, a ground-breaking new art magazine featuring a series of printed exhibitions.
NEW YORK, March 2nd. ThinkIdea, a magazine and online publisher, is officially launching ArtWorld Digest—a bold new art publication. The first issue will be available in March, 2006. This publication dramatically sets itself apart by focusing on artwork that has yet to arrive in blue-chip publications and serves as a direct nexus between artists, collectors, and galleries. Like contemporary survey exhibitions, which highlight new movements and players in the field, ArtWorld Digest will expose current trends that have yet to surface on the critical radar of the art market and get the attention they deserve.

Issue one, “UnAmbiguous,” is the first in a series of printed exhibitions and features 99 exciting new artists from New York and around the world including China, Japan, Amsterdam, Germany, Canada, and across the U.S. “UnAmbiguous,” explores the trend from analog representation to digital and features artists selected by the curator from online artist registries. Their work was first found in digital form and in many cases this is the first time it is being exposed in a printed publication.

“Unambiguous” capitalizes on the use of online registries, which have become the most significant sources to find contemporary artists. In the battle for preeminence between digital and printed media, “Unambiguous” instead of choosing sides declares a temporary truce by balancing the two.

“In many cases the artwork has been photographed, scanned, resized then published on the web. It is amazing how fluid visual information has become. The question then becomes, “What has been lost in the process?"

The end result of going from the physical to digital representation then back again to a physical approximation of the work highlights a major dilemma in our current age of digital reproduction.” - David Cohen, publisher of ArtWorld Digest, and curator of “Unambiguous." The publication as printed exhibition is a unique concept for an art publication that provides media exposure in the New York art market to locally successful, but underserved, artists. ArtWorld Digest will feature images, descriptions and the artists contact information without critical interpretation. It’s a way to approach the art world from the artist-curator’s perspective, as opposed to the critic-curator’s voice that dominates the art market. There will be no advertising in the first issue; the focus will be on the artwork. Future issues will feature guest curators and interviews with artists about their careers and how to break into the art world.

On March 15th, ThinkIdea will host a fundraiser and launch party for ArtWorld Digest at Galapagos Art Space (70 North 6thStreet) in Williamsburg Brooklyn followed by an after-party at Maiden Brooklyn (252 Grand Street). Admission is free and Unambiguous will be available for the first time for sale.

After the launch, the issue will be available for sale at selected book stores in the New York area, contemporary art galleries in New York and on
